Prime Maldives has participated in a stakeholder consultation meeting organized by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture on the "prevention of pests and plant disease spread in the Maldives."
The meeting was held from April 5-6, 2023, and saw the participation of 28 stakeholders from various organizations. Representing Prime Maldives were the Managing Director, Mr. Ahmed Shiyaz Ibrahim, and Manager Marketing and Sales, Mohamed Zahid.
The meeting was aimed to discuss the various ways to combat pest outbreaks in the Maldives and to strengthen quarantine practices for plants and plant parts imported into the country.
During the meeting, stakeholders discussed the importance of having strict quarantine measures in place to prevent the spread of pests and diseases in the Maldives. The participants also discussed the challenges faced by the country in implementing such measures and ways to overcome these challenges.
The meeting was inaugurated by the Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, who stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to prevent the spread of pests and diseases that could have a devastating impact on the country's agricultural industry and the health of those who consume.
The stakeholder consultation meeting was an important platform for the exchange of ideas and expertise among the participants. The outcome of the meeting will help the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture to develop effective policies and strategies to prevent the spread of pests and diseases in the Maldives.
