Maldivian Delegation Participates in International Training on Nature Farming & EM Technology in Thailand

A team from the Maldives, representing Prime Maldives along with two Maldivian farmers, participated in the International Training Workshop on Nature Farming and Effective Microorganism (EM) Technology, held at the Kyusei Nature Farming Center in Saraburi, Thailand.

The workshop brought together participants from Myanmar, Malaysia, Bhutan, the Philippines, the Maldives, and the UAE, united by a shared mission to promote sustainable agriculture and environmental harmony through EM Technology and Nature Farming.

Representing the Maldives were Mr. Niyaz Ibrahim, Mr. Mohamed Zahid, and Mr. Ibrahim Sobah from Prime Maldives, together with Mr. Abdulla Shareef and Mr. Abdulla Saeed, two dedicated farmers from the Maldives.

Comprehensive Training on EM and Nature Farming

Over four days, the training covered a wide range of topics including:

  • Introduction to EM Technology and Nature Farming Concepts

  • Preparation of Activated EM (EMAS) and EM Fermented Plant Extract (EMFPE)

  • Making EM Bokashi, compost, and EM mud balls

  • EM application for paddy rice, vegetables, and fruit crops

  • EM use in aquaculture, animal husbandry, and environmental management

  • Soil preparation and kitchen garbage management

  • Understanding biodiversity and the Sufficiency Economy philosophy

Participants also gained hands-on training at the center’s demonstration fields and visited a kitchen waste management center and a botanical garden, where they observed practical EM applications in waste recycling and soil restoration.

What Are Nature Farming and EM Technology?

Nature Farming, founded on the philosophy of living in harmony with nature, emphasizes cultivating healthy soil and plants without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. It encourages farmers to work with natural systems rather than against them.

Effective Microorganism (EM) Technology, developed by EMRO Japan, involves the use of beneficial microbes that rejuvenate soil, suppress harmful pathogens, and promote overall ecological balance. It is widely used for crop production, composting, water purification, and environmental management.

Prime Maldives’ Commitment to Sustainability

Prime Maldives, in close collaboration with EMRO Asia, is leading efforts in the Maldives to promote organic and sustainable farming practices. The company actively supports farmers in adopting EM-based solutions to enhance productivity, improve soil health, and address environmental challenges — especially in the tourism sector, where EM is used for odor control, waste management, and eco-friendly landscaping.

This international collaboration marks another milestone in Prime Maldives’ journey toward building a greener, cleaner, and more resilient agricultural future for the Maldives.
